Dennis Hopkins – Athletic Director
I’m honored to serve as the Athletic Director for Grosse Ile Community Schools, bringing over 30 years of coaching experience and 20 years in athletic administration. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Northland International University, where I played soccer and basketball, and my Master’s of Sports Science in Sport Coaching from the United States Sports Academy.
My career has taken me from the elementary level to NCAA Division I, coaching multiple sports including basketball, soccer, baseball, golf, and track. I also serve as the Assistant Executive Director of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan.
My vision for Red Devils Athletics is to build strong community connections, enhance communication, support our coaches, and foster a unified “one family” sports culture. My wife, Wendy, and I, along with our three adult children, are excited to be part of this community and look forward to continuing its proud tradition of athletic excellence.

Angela Raithel – Athletic Administrative Assistant
Grosse Ile athletics has been a big part of my life for years, and I’m thrilled to now serve as the Athletic Director Assistant for our schools. Many of you know me from the sidelines as the Head Varsity Sideline and Competitive Cheer Coach, where I’ve had the privilege of leading our Red Devil athletes to multiple league and district titles along with regional and state runner-up finishes.
I also serve as Scholarship Director for the Competitive Cheer Coaches Association of Michigan and work as a Physical Therapist Assistant, fueling my passion for athlete health, safety, and development.
My husband Jeff and I are proud to be raising four active kids, all athletes and all Red Devils at heart. Our oldest two, Marisa and Olivia, are Grosse Ile graduates, while Evan and Stella are still in the district and involved in multiple sports. Our family is deeply connected to the GI community, and I’m committed to supporting our athletes, coaches, and families while building on the tradition of excellence in Grosse Ile athletics.
Let’s make it a great year, Red Devils!

Khaled Mousa – Athletic Trainer, MAT, ATC, PES
I am excited to serve as the Athletic Trainer for both the high school and middle school, where my role is to prevent injuries, provide immediate care, create safe recovery plans, and help athletes return to play with confidence. I also work closely with coaches, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure our students receive the best possible support.
I hold both a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s degree in Athletic Training from Eastern Michigan University. My background includes nine years of coaching high school soccer, which has given me a strong connection to student-athletes and their needs both on and off the field.
My vision is to build a safe and encouraging environment where athletes feel cared for, respected, and motivated to reach their highest potential. I am married and the proud parent of a 4-year-old daughter. It is an honor to support this community and to care for our athletes as they grow in both sports and life.

Sadie Matzo – Athletic Digital Marketing Intern
My name is Sadie Matzo, and I’m a junior at Grosse Ile High School. I am very excited to say that this year, I have taken on the position of Athletics Digital Marketing Intern! My role with the athletics department is to promote Grosse Ile athletics, community involvement, and school spirit. You can find my content on the school athletics website, as well as the school athletics instagram page, @gireddevilpride.
It is my goal to support the athletics department in its mission to build pride and engagement in Red Devil athletics by offering consistent, high-quality coverage of all school athletic events, creating a space where all sports teams receive recognition, and increasing student and community attendance at games and athletic events.
Go Devils!
