Red Devils Swim Huron League Runner-Up

Red Devils Finish as Huron League Runner-Up in Impressive Turnaround Season by Sadie Matzo

The Grosse Ile girls swim and dive team finished as league runner-up at the Huron League
Championships in late October to wrap up a season that saw much growth and a new spirit
within the team.

Under the new co-head coaches, Andrew Johnson and Jamie Benson, the Red Devils had a
remarkable turnaround this year – using experience, leadership, and young new talent to push
their way up the league standings.

Some standout performances from Grosse Ile included Aurelia Miles (senior) taking runner-up in
1 Meter Diving, and Ripley Booker (junior) taking second in the 100-meter Freestyle race. Olivia
Miller (freshman), Reese Wood (junior), Booker, and Lina Shihadeh (freshman) combined to
take runner-up in the 200-meter Freestyle Relay race.

Other podium finishes for the Red Devils came from the 200-meter Medley Relay team
consisting of Isabel Roscoe (junior), Wood, Shihadeh, and Booker; Charlotte Vesperman,
sophomore, in 1 Meter Diving; Olivia Miller in the 100-meter Freestyle; and Shihadeh in the
50-meter Freestyle.

With strong times and swims across the board, the Red Devils have reestablished themselves
as a team to watch heading into regionals and future seasons.
