Winter Sports Season Kicks Off at Grosse Ile High School by Sadie Matzo
As the fall season comes to an end, the Grosse Ile Red Devils are gearing up for an exciting
season of winter sports. From the basketball court to the wrestling mat to the ice, the
student-athletes from Grosse Ile High School are ready to show out.
Here are the official start dates for each team:
● Hockey – October 27th
● Dance – November 3
● Competitive Cheer – November 10
● Boys Basketball – November 12
● Wrestling – November 17
● Girls Basketball – November 19
This season should be full of grit and excitement for the Red Devils, players, and fans alike. The
hockey team is projected to be a powerhouse in the league under the direction of new head
coach Scott Sebastian and his staff, who are bringing a new level of focus and energy to the
program. The competitive cheer team looks to build off of their incredible momentum as last
year’s state runner-ups, with a team full of young, fresh talent.
Derrick Jackson undertakes his second season as head coach of the boys’ varsity basketball
team after creating a massive turn in the program last year. The culture and mentality of the
entire program have shifted, and the team will certainly be one to watch this year.
With a combination of new leadership, new and returning talent, and plenty of Red Devil pride,
this winter at GI is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet!
